Vintage Framed GF Watts Lithograph ‘Hope’

An antique lithographic version of Symbolist oil painting Hope, by GF Watts. Framed in antique gold leaf. 

A blindfolded Hope sits on the globe playing her single stringed lyre. Watts wanted to use symbolism not traditionally associated with hope in his painting. The use of coloration was lauded in art circles of the day.

Obama gained inspiration for his Audacity of Hope theme from a sermon by Jeremiah Wright, who referenced the painting in his 1990 speech.
