Jeanne Moment was a Los Angeles high school teacher for twenty-five years before she and her family came to Oregon in 1940. She fell in love with Oregon's outdoor experience--skiing, hiking, and camping. This sense of nature and the environment was to be present in all her future works, and was the inspiration for the 1952 national Keep America Beautiful campaign. Many of her landscapes showed the influence of J.M.W. Turner, a nineteenth-century English artist.
