Life or Theatre is the work of a young woman who was driven by persecution and war to give artistic form to the essentials of her life. Her conviction that profound pain is inseparable from the life of man, and her struggles with that pain, were attitudes that were to prove characteristic of the generation that reached maturity after the Second World War, and had to learn to live with a legacy of millions of needless deaths.
In 1943 Charlotte was 5 months pregnant and was captured by the nazis. She was deported to Auschwitz and was killed there shortly thereafter.
