A huge early nineteenth century Brazilian Penca. The hanger with the two birds is made of brass, the various charms are made of some kind of silver/tin. This Penca has 9 amulets to it, including a cooking pot, fish and fruits.
These charms are good luck pieces or act as protection against evil spirits..they would have been worn as a necklace or from a belt and in homes, hung above a doorway.
